The Enchanted Forest: Celebrating 200 years of Grimm’s Fairy Tales

The Enchanted Forest
Celebrating 200 years of Grimm’s Fairy Tales

Wednesday 28 November – Saturday 8 December
FREE Exhibition

The first ever collection of Grimm’s fairy tales, entitled “Children’s and Household Tales”, was published in December of 1812, and two hundred years later it is still thrilling children and adults alike. To celebrate two hundred years of enchantment and magic; seven young up and coming illustrators will be interpreting these wonderfully dark and mysterious stories into a very special Christmas exhibition at Foyles. With inspiration taken from both the classics, such as Hansel and Gretel, and the less well-known tales like The Golden Bird; this exhibition is about interpreting and re-discovering a cultural legacy that has been with us for 200 years.

Prepare to be spellbound as you enter The Enchanted Forest.

The Enchanted Forest is grateful to IdeasTap for providing funding through its Ideas Fund for this project.

Venue:
The Gallery at Foyles, Third Floor, Charing Cross Road

Opening Hours:
Monday – Saturday 9am – 9pm
Sunday 10am – 6pm

*Please note that the Gallery may be closed when instore meetings and events are taking place.

Africa Fashion Guide: Book and Website Launch Retrospective

Another retrospective for you now, barely recovering from the Vogue Fashion Night Out, the very next day, we were in London again snooping out the launch event for the fantastic Africa Fashion Guide, book and website launch. We were treated to passionate in depth panel discussions as well as a showcase of African fashion on a night filled with fashion debate and delicious smelling food. Such a massive event in aid of a really wonderful book deserves real praise especially since the author Jacqueline Shaw achieved all of this for her final major project of her masters degree.

The book itself is a great read with some fantastic illustrations by a number of our contributors and a wonderful showcase of the latest styles from and inspired by Africa.

This wonderful book is available to buy here

Get the latest on the project and more about the book and event from the site here and on their facebook page you can see some of the professional photos from the night or follow them on twitter.

London Fashion Night Out: Retrospective

A quick retrospective look at the the Vogue London Fashion Night Out in London, which saw some amazing scenes as shops all over the capital opened their doors late into the night in a celebration of all things fashion. Our little piece of the action centres on Covent Garden where illustrators Matt Thomas, Erica Sharp and Natsuki Otani were busy creating quick sketch fashion illustrations for anyone who sat. This was in aid of swanky English eatery Canteen setting up a new popup restaurant in the Market building in Covent Garden. Suffice to say they went down a storm with queues peaking at five deep the intrepid three kept sketching, inking and colouring late into the night producing some wonderful illos capturing the essence of their subjects in a matter of minutes. All in all it was a great night, and despite being too busy to eat after their brows stopped sweating and the fingers stopped hurting it we have the chance to have a look at some of the great work they produced.

So here's to Matt, Erica and our very own Natsuki please check them out!
