Exhibition feature: Stephen Chan and Friends Presents

It's exhibition feature time now here on the rally and we have something totally boxfresh for you guys now, with Stephen Chan and Friends Presents curated by the irrepressible graphic master Stephen Chan. For this, his first solo stint, he has rather graciously decided to share the limelight with other global artists and creators,in fantastic Hong Kong gallery/cafe Odd One Out crafting a really unique mashup of retro anaglyph, cutting edge visuals and CG animation. Among the other visual eye snacks were paper toy creations in an event so cool that hipster's pints are freezing solid from Toronto to Hackney.

Recently featured on Kotaku, Chan is repainting the definition of global scene with his globetrotting squad of international art pirates and is at the forefront of the new age of illustration, carved out by the naive pioneers and built on with ever slicker and more intelligent content underpinned with a new wave mass market social delivery. This is the time that art can cut the corporate corners and punch you in the consumer gob with a big refreshing pile of eye fire. Note to self, do more, travel more create more. It's hard not to be inspired and frankly a little jealous with such talent on display.

We wish him the best with his endeavours, so if you are in the area check it out and if not, well we have the internet for that hey.

The Enchanted Forest: Celebrating 200 years of Grimm’s Fairy Tales

The Enchanted Forest
Celebrating 200 years of Grimm’s Fairy Tales

Wednesday 28 November – Saturday 8 December
FREE Exhibition

The first ever collection of Grimm’s fairy tales, entitled “Children’s and Household Tales”, was published in December of 1812, and two hundred years later it is still thrilling children and adults alike. To celebrate two hundred years of enchantment and magic; seven young up and coming illustrators will be interpreting these wonderfully dark and mysterious stories into a very special Christmas exhibition at Foyles. With inspiration taken from both the classics, such as Hansel and Gretel, and the less well-known tales like The Golden Bird; this exhibition is about interpreting and re-discovering a cultural legacy that has been with us for 200 years.

Prepare to be spellbound as you enter The Enchanted Forest.

The Enchanted Forest is grateful to IdeasTap for providing funding through its Ideas Fund for this project.

Venue:
The Gallery at Foyles, Third Floor, Charing Cross Road

Opening Hours:
Monday – Saturday 9am – 9pm
Sunday 10am – 6pm

*Please note that the Gallery may be closed when instore meetings and events are taking place.

Upstairs for Thinking, Downstairs for Dancing Review

Return of the Chip! Hello everyone, the sharp eyed among you will recognise the ice cool style of one of the best BW illustrators on the scene and realise that this is the first solo show of the fantastic Mr Millerchip. With some awesome eye popping work Mr Millerchip really hands it to the viewer with an experience that just pops with flavour and quirky sardonic style. Mr Millerchip is a great live artist and he backs this up with some serious chops in this, his first solo show by proving he is a real force to be reckoned with. Shows are great, but they are so much better with an atmosphere and tactile element. The whole show works really hard both aesthetically and also as a method for bringing the viewer into a crafted world. The kind of deliciously sweet satisfying props that a thousand trendy bars would kill for and a use of space that would make a trendy boutique cry with envy. Millerchip is the whole package and it's great to see his stand alone show providing such a good platform for him. Guaranteed to be a real star of the future Millerchip will be bringing you BW illos with a real grace and poise. An ace exhibition at the Pure Gallery it runs till the end of the month so if you're quick you can still get down there.

"UPSTAIRS FOR THINKING, DOWNSTAIRS FOR DANCING" Exhibition News

Exhibition news now, and we have a great one for you now.Upstairs for Thinking, Downstairs for Drinking is the first solo outing of the venerable Mr Millerchip who brought his own slice of awesome to our Paint it! Make it! event. Mr Millerchip's lovable style brings you the best in characters with humour and a certain elegance in their construction, creating a melange of edgy and clever characters set against tumultuous and stylish backgrounds. So if you have a spare moment, get your good self to The Pure Gallery and take in the untamed glory of Mr Millerchip! Check below for the dates and details.

The Pure Gallery proudly presents
"UPSTAIRS FOR THINKING, DOWNSTAIRS FOR DANCING"
collection of images created by Mister Millerchip

The UK based Illustrator has created a world of characters who appear within complex narratives, living out their lives in two tone splendour.

Mr. M's first solo show “ Upstairs for Thinking, Downstairs for Dancing” depicts an oddly mundane 24 hour period in the life of Lars Arraday, a determined street preacher by day and a successful ballroom dancer by night.

Black and white could not be any clearer which is perhaps the irony of the show through a simplistic yet sympathetic approach to his chosen palette, Mr M has indeed made a success out of creating thought provoking imagery that conveys a story of one mans obsessive desires.

The show runs from the 1st to the 29th of September 2011 with a special view on Thursday the 1st of September 7pm till 10pm. Check below for the address and you can see the facebook page here!

Illustration Exhibition: Stars in Stripes - Rotherham Scope

This is the latest info for the wonderful The Stars in Stripes exhibition which is on right now this second! So if you are in the area, it would be a great opportunity to catch these talented illustrators and artists' work. Featured here before on the rally, we can guarantee their live art prowess so this is one you shouldn't miss!

The Stars in Stripes are artists and illustrators all based in Sheffield, who formed the group in 2009 and have produced ‘Live Art’ in spots all over Sheffield ever since. They are having their the first of a series of exhibitions as part of Rotherham Scope. Rotherham Scope was established in 2010 to provide a platform for emerging artists' groups to exhibit their work on a much larger scale in Rotherham's Old Market Building. The artists were set the challenge of working beyond their regular scale and creating an exhibition that will stretch them to their full potential. They aim to help them achieve this by extending the installation of the show over a period of weeks to allow the group to have a more time to let their ideas develop and assist them in gaining funding. The Stars in Stripes were selected after consideration for their impressive work ethic and their passion for illustration and this will be demonstrated in this exhibition!

The gallery space will be open to the public:
Monday - Friday 11am - 4pm between untill 12 February

Take a look at their blog to find out more about the artists!
